Adam North – BSc(Hons)

A little about me:
I graduated from The University of Melbourne, receiving a BSc(Hons) with a major in Structural Geology. After spending 6 months snowboarding in Colorado and surfing in Mexico, I returned to Australia to begin my career with Golder Associates. For the next 4 years I worked in the field on various civil, environmental, infrastructure and mining projects around Australia and in New Caledonia, primarily focussing on geotechnical and environmental engineering. I subsequently took a job as a wireline engineer with Schlumberger and spent the next 5 years working on oil rigs in the Caspian region and in the North Sea. I moved from the field into a technical sales role in Norway, progressing into account management and business development before moving back to Australia as the APAC BDM for cased-hole wireline. I joined AVEVA in 2017 and have been engaging customers in the application of a broad portfolio of engineering software solutions since then. I’m excited to join the Seequent team, and work with an exciting group of clients.

Outside of work, if I’m not active outdoors, I like to be creative with food, wood and music.

Favourite tool/feature in Leapfrog Works?
As a structural geologist myself I really like how intuitive it is to incorporate structural data into your geological model. The fault modelling is really powerful too, so you can model some pretty complex geological structures – and see it all in 3D.

What’s your industry prediction for 2019?
The engineering world continues to embrace the concepts of “Industry 4.0” and “the BIM revolution” at an accelerating pace. Not only are technological advances aiding those in the design of increasingly complex and challenging projects, they are also providing engineers with the tools to effectively communicate concepts and information to a much wider audience. Better communication enables informed decision making, and ultimately more favourable outcomes for all involved.
Customers are increasingly requesting a more integrated set of digital deliverables in addition to their asset delivery. Without the proper tools to aggregate and visualise this information, the process becomes unmanageable and resource intensive. I’m looking forward to supporting customers in their quest to collate, model, interpret and communicate their subsurface environment.

Website you visit the most?
Weatherzone.com.au – In addition to Geology, I also studied Meteorology at University. I’ve always been fascinated by the ever-changing appearance of our atmosphere and the nature of its constant evolution. A lot of my hobbies rely heavily on the weather, so I’m always keeping an eye on it… But during storm season, I take a much keener interest in the details.
